During one of our classes shortly before Thanksgiving, we discussed the idea of thankfulness (good timing, eh?) and how it changes our disposition.  When challenging things happen, taking the time to be thankful can completely alter our perspective.

I had big plans for my post this week, but I’ve decided to write about what’s on my heart:

The end of the semester.

That’s my challenge right now.  When I think about it, the main emotion I feel is a sense of sadness, because it has been such a wonderfully, unique time in my life.  I feel like we can sometimes choose to put on negative lenses when life seasons come to an end because that makes it easier to ignore the sweet pain of saying good-bye to an incredible time.  While I’d rather be negative (that’s really not true), let’s play the thankful game.

I am thankful for the chance to live in community for 3 months with Rachel, Erika, Anna, Piva, Kellie, Aimee, Bill, Katie, Max, and Ruby (I’ll be with the last 5 next semester).  Our house has been a place that allowed me to rest, laugh, think, play, cry, try new things, and just be.

I am thankful for the fact that I was in leadership track this semester.  I am thankful that I got to experience it with Erika, Piva, Aimee, Bella, Amy, Dillon, Kevin, John, Joshua, and Travis (our fearless leader).  We have learned so much about how to be better leaders, but what’s more, we have been vulnerable with each other which has left the door wide open to connect on a deeper level.

I am thankful to work with an organization that cares about me as an individual.  CGA has given the apprentices the space to process through the World Race and who we are as people.  I’ve learned more about myself in this season than I would have ever guessed.

I am thankful for the people at AIM.  My housemates, my house mentors, my CGA leaders, Andi, Aubree, and Amie Beth, my track leader, Travis, my course leaders, Joe and Deon, my supervisor, Jordan, my discipler, Carly, and all of the other people who take time to stop, notice, and truly see people.

I am thankful to be around people who have experienced the World Race as well.  It is a gift to not have to explain what it was like using a squatty potty, using a bucket shower, or wearing the same clothes for an entire week.  While it is wonderful to have people to share the stories with, sometimes, you just need someone who gets it.

I am thankful that Gainesville has both a lake and beautiful views of the mountains.  It’s pretty around here.

I am thankful for all of the personal growth that has taken place in this short time.

I am thankful that I get to come back for another semester.  It may look different because there will be new housemates and a whole new track, but I anticipate it will be just as great.

I’d rather be negative…nope, forget that, who says that anyway?  Let’s celebrate and be thankful.
