Acts. In the Bible. What a collection of stories. Hearing all that Paul did, how often and far he traveled, and his unyielding resolve to spread the news of Jesus absolutely blows my mind. I’ve been moving around every week and a half (give or take several days) for the past 6 months. I cannot imagine doing all Paul did. He was a force to be reckoned with, not because of his own strength, but because of his firm devotion and pursuit of the Lord. Nothing else mattered to him.
As I’ve read the Bible, there are characters who appear many times throughout, whereas others are mentioned only once. Many people are referred to simply as a man or a woman. Occasionally, their name is included, followed by a tagline. In Acts 18, a man named Titius Justus was discussed:
And he left there and went to the house of a man named Titius Justus, a worshiper of God. Acts 18:7
A WORSHIPER OF GOD.
Apart from his name, that was Titius’ tagline. Shoot, that’ll work.
It got me thinking, what would my tagline be? If someone were telling the story of the world and the name Casey Baxter appeared in a sentence, what part of my life would be mentioned? I hope it would be something good.
Paul was one of those people who was designed to cover much ground, touch the lives of many, and speak boldly. We all have different calls. I think most of us would show up in a single sentence, rather than be a character who continuously makes appearances. You know what? That’s OK. Just as long as what we are representing is worthwhile. I do not have to be mentioned often, but what does get mentioned, I want to reflect my desire, pursuit, and love for Jesus Christ.
So, my question to you is this: Your name and comma what?
